‘The Show Will Go On’ says Nineteen Group

by Saul Leese

Nineteen Group’s CEO, Peter Jones and joint-MD, Alison Jackson has told EN that the NEC April Series (The Security Event, The Health & Safety Event, The Fire Safety Event and The Facilities Event) taking place at the NEC on 28-30 April will go ahead.

Jones said: “Alison and I would like to sincerely thank all exhibitors and visitors of our NEC Series for their continued support. Understandably, we have received many queries as to whether we might postpone the event, due to COVID-19, and we want to make our position clear, we have NO plans to postpone. We accept COVID-19 presents uncharted challenges, and whilst we have a comprehensive contingency plan, we will follow government advice, which is ‘business as usual’.

“We also note the governor of the Bank of England, Mark Carney, has stated that whilst the UK economy will be impacted, it will be on a different scale to 2008 being more ‘disruption’ than ‘destruction’. That said we acknowledge that businesses, right across the board, will face a challenging year ahead and we at Nineteen remain 100% committed to providing a powerful, and timely, platform delivering critical solutions to our visitors, and much needed new business opportunities to our exhibitors.

“Mindful of our duty of care, we will remain in close consultation with experts and also in partnership with our partners, NEC, on appropriate sanitary, health and other measures. We assure you we will do everything possible to keep the event as safe as possible. Unfortunately, Alison and I have no control over the wider damage that hype, speculation and over reaction may cause. In the words of Gloria Guevara, President and CEO, World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), “containing the spread of unnecessary panic is as important as stopping the virus itself.”

“However, we assure you of this, until we are told ‘not to’, and whilst we continue to receive daily stand bookings and pre-registrations building towards 100% ahead of this time last year, we will apply common sense, take the advice of the authorities and scientists, and deliver you a great show. We look forward to welcoming you to the NEC.”
