The Golf Show Group will switch its flagship Golf Show from London to Birmingham under the new National Golf Show mantle from 2011.
The first National Golf Show is scheduled from 15-17 April 2011 at The NEC and replaces the NEC Golf Show, which will be held for the last time on 26 to 28 November. Golf Show Group sales director Damian Benstead said visitor and exhibitor feedback showed The NEC’s Midlands location to be the best base for a nationwide show, capable of attracting an audience from all corners of the country.
“When the London Golf Show launched in 2005 it was hugely popular within the industry as there was nothing else like it in existence. However when we began the NEC Golf Show in 2007 it was almost like creating a competitor for our own event,” he said.
“At the same time we have noticed those companies that gain most from the London Golf Show benefit from the loyal fan base the event has in the south-east.
“With that in mind we are re-positioning the two products and our flagship event will now be at the NEC at the start of the golfing season, with the first National Golf Show.”
The NEC Golf Show in November will take up 4,800sqm. A company spokesperson said the new National Golf Show was expected to be 50 per cent larger when it launched next year.
The London Golf Show, which has been held each April at Excel and attracted 15,000 visitors in 2010, will now be rescheduled to November 2011. A venue for next year’s London show has not yet been confirmed.
The NEC’s position as a preferred national exhibition space was demonstrated last month by Upper Street Events, which announced plans to relocate The Cycle Show from Earls Court to The NEC for its tenth anniversary.
