Talent Expo, which was set to launch at London Excel from 24 to 27 June, has been postponed until a yet-to-be-determined date.
Event organiser Robert Fenton, owner of Dynamite Models, says the postponement of the three-day event will allow organisers to finalise sponsorship and partnership deals, as well as giving exhibitors more time to plan elaborate stands.
“[The exhibitors] decided they wanted bigger stands and there was no way we were going to get those things done by the original date,” he says. “To try and keep everyone happy was going to be virtually impossible to do in just a few weeks.”
The decision was made in early June, only a few weeks before the show was due to open.
“We spoke to [our exhibitors] and they breathed a sigh of relief. A couple have asked for their balance back but none have pulled out,” says Fenton.
Fenton hopes to make use of Excel’s auditorium, completed earlier this year to host The X-Factor. If the event does incorporate the auditorium, it will move from halls S1-S4 to the other end of Excel. Hall space now allotted for a temporary stage will instead be used as additional exhibition space.
“It will be a whole series of mini stages and installation pieces. It’s going to be very theatrical and entertaining,” says Fenton.
Fenton is also considering adding a trade element to the show. “Originally there was a trade zone, but there wasn’t much demand for it. Now all of a sudden there is a demand. If we don’t add it this year then definitely next year.”
