The Science Museum in South Kensington has converted its post room, originally constructed in 1890, into the newly refurbished Smith Centre for both daytime and evening hire.
Many of the building’s original features have been elegantly preserved to present four spaces of varying size: The Salon, The Courtyard Room, Large Meeting Room and Small Meeting Room.
Accommodating a range of events, the spaces can host guest numbers ranging from a small meetings to a drinks reception for 200 in The Salon.
Among the original features is an open-plan courtyard area which can be used in conjunction with daytime hire of the Salon. The space is also enhanced with a range of hand-picked historical objects from the Science Museum collection, including a Replica pressure suit from the last mission to the Moon and the Electrical Engineering Workshop painting by Terence Cuneo.
Jodie Guilford, marketing manager at the Science Museum said: “It’s fantastic to be expanding our events offering even further with the addition of the Smith Centre, with the exciting feature of an outdoor courtyard. With integrated AV solutions in the Smith Centre and the existing museum spaces to choose from too, clients will also benefit from multi-space hire options, widening the scope of event formats from additional daytime space in the Flight gallery, to evening dinners and receptions in Illuminate.”
