EN celebrates Global Exhibitions Day

by Joe Gallop

EN is celebrating Global Exhibitions Day (GED) 2022 today, 1 June, to highlight the positive impact and potential growth of the exhibition industry.

GED 22, organised by UFI, the global association of the exhibition industry, marks the seventh edition of the event. It was set up to highlight the impact of exhibitions on local economies – both in building businesses and connecting people from around the world.

UFI said GED 22 is focusing on the “irreplaceable value of physical exhibitions and face-to-face business events in creating platforms for economic growth and recovery, as well as being the perfect occasion to network and meet new people.”

To mark the occasion, several members of the 30 class spoke to EN about what they want for the exhibition industry.

Izzy Viney, senior marketing manager at Informa, said: “I want the exhibitions industry to be inclusive and open-minded – the best ideas come from the willingness to try new things.”

Mehram Sumray-Roots, CMO at Freshers Festival Group, said: “I want the exhibition industry to be a place where companies of all sizes come together to collaborate whilst working towards a more sustainable future.”

Melina Viking, event director at Diversified Communications, said she wants the industry to be “diverse, inclusive and sustainable”.

GED 2022 is focusing on the following themes:

  • Celebrating the role of exhibitions in accelerating the pace of economic recovery
  • Enabling the community to see each other again and to meet new people
  • As Covid-19 restrictions end, the industry anticipates a strong and quick recovery
  • Everyone associated with the global exhibition industry is encouraged to recognise the day
