The East of England Arena and Events Centre (EEAEC) has announced it will be hosting a hybrid drive-in cinema event from 20-21 December.
The Drive-In Winter Experience follows the EEAEC’s previous drive-in events earlier this year and will screen films on a 40ft projection screen, with audio to be streamed to cars via FM radio.
The arena will host two shows a day featuring family-friendly seasonal films, quizzes, comedy and food ordered from cars. The shows will be cash-free, with cars parked at safe distances and a two metre spaced queue.
Venue director of the EEAEC, Jason Lunn, said: “The drive-in format has shown itself to be very popular and flexible during the pandemic, and allows us to open the venue to visitors when almost every other show has had to be cancelled or postponed. It’s vital to try and keep the venue open and active, and not just from an economic perspective, but to remind visitors and audiences that we are still here, and providing entertainment and enjoyment to the region.
“Drive-in Cinema, the organiser of this show, has refined and tailored this format during the pandemic, and it has been a great success everywhere it has landed. Our previous experience has been that these shows sell out in days, which tells us that audiences are itching to get back to live shows and entertainment the moment that becomes possible. This must be good news for the industry.”
