WorldBuilder Summit, a conference for people who build their own games and virtual worlds on platforms such as Roblox, Fortnite and Minecraft, will hold its first London event at Olympia’s new International Convention Centre (ICC) on 11 November.
The summit launched in Los Angeles earlier this year, drawing 260 attendees, including creators, brands and rights holders. The London edition is its first outside the US, and is expected to bring in around 300 creators and industry figures from the UK and the rest of Europe. The organisers describe it as the only event of its kind in the world.
According to Olympia, London was picked for its international links and its connections with the gaming and creative industries, while having conference space, hotels and restaurants on one site helped the venue win the event.
Scott Benzie, founder of WorldBuilder Summit, said: “The ICC, hotels, restaurants and bars all sit within one connected destination, creating the kind of concentrated environment where a community like ours can spend more meaningful time together.”
“If a young Shakespeare were working today, he might well be building games”
Benzie added: “Creators are no longer simply making content. They are building worlds, characters, communities and businesses inside digital platforms. If a young Shakespeare were working today, he might well be building games.”
Adam Pollington, sales director at Olympia Events, which runs the ICC, said the summit was “the kind of ambitious, next-generation event we want to help grow at Olympia”.
