The Natural History Museum has unveiled its first-ever immersive experience, Our Story with David Attenborough. The 50-minute production, staged in the Jerwood Gallery, takes audiences on a 360° journey through the shared history of humanity and the Earth.
The project was led by Open Planet Studios, with Bild Studios as principal contractor and Luke Halls Studio overseeing video content design. The installation uses 17 Epson projectors and 50 speakers to create projection-mapped visuals across the gallery’s walls and floor, supported by narration from Sir David Attenborough and an original score by composer Nick Powell.
Bild Studios integrated all technical elements of the production, working with HIVE media servers to synchronise large-format video playback. The system was supplied through a collaboration with AV distributor Midwich, its specialist division PSCo, and AED for projection.
The installation has been met with positive feedback from visitors and the wider cultural sector, and the Museum is exploring further opportunities for immersive programming.
