An immersive exhibition exploring the life of Cleopatra will open at Excel London Waterfront on the 26 March for a 15-week run.

Cleopatra: The Experience spans 3,000 sqm across nine interactive galleries. It combines projection mapping, virtual reality and augmented reality with 22 original artefacts from the Hellenistic and Late Egyptian periods.

The exhibition was developed with historical curators and Egyptologists and is endorsed by Dr Chris Naunton, a British Egyptologist and the show’s official ambassador.

Visitors begin with a hologram presentation on the Ptolemaic Dynasty before exploring a metaverse space using AR goggles. This section recreates locations including the catacombs of Alexandria, Alexander the Great’s coronation at the Siwa Oasis and Mark Antony’s tent during the Battle of Actium.

Other features include an interactive recreation of Cleopatra’s private chamber, a five-metre-tall projection-mapped Lighthouse of Alexandria, and a 360-degree cinematic room with 8-metre-high walls showing scenes from her coronation, alliance with Julius Caesar and the Battle of Actium.

Dr Chris Naunton, said: “This new exhibition does a superb job of presenting the archaeological and historical evidence in a way that transports the visitor to the Egypt of Cleopatra’s time. It tells the story of her life and legacy in such a way that you feel as though you are living it with her.”
