Half a billion kilograms of CO2 emissions to be saved by the events industry making site visit in the metaverse.

Site inspections in the travel and events industry are responsible for 456 million kilograms of CO2 each year globally.

Metaverse as a service  (MaaS) company, RendezVerse, says making site visits in the metaverse could be a carbon neutral alternative to offsetting.

RendezVerse has developed a more sustainable option for hotels and venues. It allows for site inspections with no travel requirements through the use of its metaverse, which showcases digital twins of venues as if the planner was there in person.

Mark Brown, COO, RendezVerse, says: “There are 380,000 hotels and venues with event spaces globally, which means there’s a great deal of planners travelling around the world to see new venues for future events. Not only is this very bad for the environment, but it is also not very time effective when better solutions exist.

“The metaverse we have created, which already hosts over 40,000 m2 of digital twin space, will drastically reduce in-person site inspections. Our aim is to get north of 80% of site inspections taking place in the metaverse, which offers a far greener solution.”

The findings follow RendezVerse’s analysis of annual site inspections, which identified a minimum of 95 million inspections per year, each producing 4.8 kilograms of CO2 per inspection due to travel to and from venues.

In order to ‘off-set’ this amount of CO2, it would require 7,540 new trees to be planted and left to grow for ten years.

Venues, including Marriott Madrid Auditorium and InterContinental Paris Le Grand, are already customers of RendezVerse’s technology, supporting the reduction of travel and emissions for their site inspections.

Brown will be speaking at the inaugural EN Marketing Conference on 11 January.

Brown will be looking at  what virtual worlds have to offer and how Web3 revolutionise the way exhibitions are marketed and how can enhance live experiences.
