The Virtual Events Institute (VEI) has announced that it will be co-organising the online summit ‘A courageous conversation about race: how leaders in the events industry are stepping up to make meaningful change’ alongside Smartxpo.
The summit aims to bring together those from across the events industry to discuss “the initiatives being undertaken, and the actions needed to foster a more diverse and inclusive business culture where everyone can thrive and prosper”.
The summit also aims to be “a candid and proactive discussion around race”, and will cover issues such as making racial diversity a priority, the current state of racial diversity in the industry and exploring the lived experiences of black professionals within events.
Confirmed speakers include: Peter Hall, president of EMEA at Informa; Paul Miller, CEO of Questex; Michael Adeniya, portfolio director at Clarion Events; Ron Walden, vice president of Reed Exhibitions; Andrew Carney, co-founder of Smartxpo; Ashanti Bentil-Dhue, co-founder of Diversity Ally; and Michaela Mayer, customer experience manager at Clarion Events. The summit will be moderated by Meera Somji, senior manager at Smartxpo.
The event aims to give attendees practical guidance on how to address the concerns of employees, and to take advantage of an opportunity to make a positive impact.
It will be supported by an in-depth research piece carried out by Smartxpo that will look at the current state of racial and gender diversity within the events industry.
The summit will be taking place on 22 October at 4pm BST, and will be free to attend. To register for the event, click here.
