Raccoon Media Group CEO, Mike Seaman is running a 100-mile ultra-marathon next month and raising money for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity.
Seaman will take on the South Downs Way Centurion on 8 June in a second attempt to conquer the course that defeated him at mile 48 in 2021.
He said: “A few years ago I posted a DNF (did not finish) on the South Downs Way 100-miler course. I was rubbish, I struggled and finally quit about halfway through. So, being me, I’ve decided to return and try again. The course is flipping hard, the weather doesn’t play to my strengths (anything above 10 degrees) and it’s 100 actual miles. I’m genuinely scared of this race and I don’t know if I can do it, but that’s the motivation.”
In 2021, Seaman took on the South Downs Way Centurion with former World Champion 400-metre sprinter, Iwan Thomas, who completed the race in under 30 hours.
A film documenting Thomas’ achievement and showing just how gruelling the course is has been watched by over 47,000 people on The National Running Show’s YouTube channel.
“I am hoping to persuade some of you to donate some cash in lieu of this insanity,” Seaman continued. “We do a lot of events in Birmingham and have become close to the Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity as a result. Having recently visited the hospital and seen the amazing care and support they deliver to sick kids I feel compelled to do anything I can to support them. As a parent myself, when I visited Magnolia House (which provides bereavement support and palliative care) I decided that this is probably the worthiest cause I can think of and I need to try and do something to support them.”
