Ben Agnew will step down as chief executive of The Payments Association, following a period of growth and a recent investment by Nineteen Group in 2025.

Agnew led the organisation through a phase of expansion that saw revenues and membership triple. The association also broadened its commercial activity and secured growth capital, positioning itself as a larger events and industry platform within the payments sector.

The leadership change comes as the business prepares for its next stage under Nineteen Group ownership. The company has been active in scaling event led businesses in recent years, acquiring and developing portfolios across sectors including technology and retail, with a focus on international growth.

Agnew said: “It has been a privilege to lead The Payments Association and work alongside such a talented team, members, partners and represent our industry. I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved together in becoming a strategic partner for the industry, and building a market leading platform with strong momentum and exciting future potential.”

Alison jackson, chief executive of Nineteen Group, added: “We would like to thank Ben for his significant contribution to The Payments Association. He has helped build a strong and highly respected platform, created a robust foundation for future growth, and leaves the business well positioned for its next chapter of international growth.”

A successor has not yet been named. Further details on leadership and strategy are expected.
