GERMANY – Messe Frankfurt claims its international business reached a new high in 2010 at approximately €114m (US$162m).

The results mean international business makes up about a quarter of Messe Frankfurt’s group sales, which totalled €448m. Approximately €314m of that came from sales at the group’s Frankfurt base.

Based on these sales, Messe Frankfurt recorded pre-tax earnings of €42m and a record EBITDA of €108m.

“Our operating business remains very strong. Profits were reduced by repayments on the loans with which we financed the construction of Hall 11 and the Portalhaus,” said Messe Frankfurt chief of finance Klaus Münster-Müller.

In 2010 Messe Frankfurt organised a total of 87 trade fairs and exhibitions worldwide, attended by approximately 2.4m visitors and 68,500 exhibitors.

In the first six months of 2011 the organiser introduced four new events in Frankfurt including M-Days, Creativeworld, Texprocess and public pet fair Maintier, and by acquiring the high-profile Green showroom event in Berlin.

At the organiser’s half-year press conference, Messe Frankfurt president and CEO Wolfgang Marzin (pictured) said the company will launch 22 new events worldwide in 2011 and 2012, including the four new events in Frankfurt.

Earlier this month the organiser’s consumer and goods show Tendence confirmed Austria as its official partner country for 2011.
