The Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) is celebrating its ninth anniversary this August with a strong record of international events, industry partnerships and economic contribution.

MITEC is owned by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and managed by METCO Sdn Bhd, and, since opening in August 2017, has developed into one of Southeast Asia’s major trade and exhibition centres.

In 2026, MITEC continued to demonstrate the scale and diversity of its events portfolio, with flagship events including Defence Services Asia (DSA), National Security Asia (NATSEC) 2026, ARCHIDEX, MATTA Fair, Malaysian International Furniture Fair (MIFF), METALTECH & AUTOMEX, Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS), Malaysia Diecast Expo and many others.

MITEC management say they are on course to welcome more than 3m visitors in 2026, building on the approximately 2.9m visitors and more than 600 events hosted in 2025.

The Centre’s strong 2026 calendar continues with events that include MATTA Fair, ASEAN Roads & Traffic Tech Expo 2026 (ARRTE 2026), HYROX, TCE, the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) and International Sustainability Week 2026. MITEC’s awards include being named the World’s Leading Meetings & Conference Centre at the World Travel Awards for three consecutive years.

Datuk Azlan Shah Jaffril, chairman of METCO Sdn Bhd, said: “MITEC represents Malaysia’s confidence and capability on the international stage. It is a place where global industries meet, commercial opportunities are created, knowledge is exchanged and long-term partnerships begin.

“As we celebrate nine years, the Board of METCO remains focused on strengthening MITEC’s governance, competitiveness and long-term growth.”

MITEC’s impact reaches far beyond its 52,000sqm of exhibition space.

Mala Dorasamy, CEO of MITEC, said the Centre’s anniversary was a celebration of the people and partnerships behind its progress.

“Our success is measured not only by the number of events or visitors we welcome, but by the businesses we connect, the jobs we support, the knowledge we enable and the opportunities we help create.

“As we enter our tenth year, we are setting our sights firmly on attracting more international events, advancing our smart venue roadmap and delivering experiences that meet the expectations of the global business events community.”

The Centre’s #myWorld environmental, social and governance programme brings together practical initiatives supporting waste reduction, resource efficiency, responsible sourcing, social participation and the circular economy. Current initiatives include used cooking-oil recycling, food and waste separation, textile recovery, support for local suppliers and locally produced gifts, and MITEC’s hydroponic garden.

MITEC has designated September as its official Green Month, with activities intended to encourage behavioural change among employees, partners and the wider events community.

MITEC’s development is closely connected to the continued growth of KL Metropolis as an integrated trade, business, hospitality and lifestyle precinct.

The opening of Hyatt Regency Kuala Lumpur at KL Midtown has boosted quality accommodation near MITEC and, as the precinct develops, MITEC will remain its international business events anchor, bringing people, industries and investment into Kuala Lumpur.
