ADNEC helping exhibitions CONNECT
A testimonial on working with ADNEC from Ashley Roberts, General Manager of CONNECT, the largest exhibition organiser in the Sultanate of Oman
When CONNECT set out in exploring and validating potential gaps and opportunities in the Middle East region for new launch exhibitions we took a number of steps. We spoke with our international agent networks and principle international brands to better understand what industries and geographical territories they were currently or looking to target. The creation of a comprehensive competitive analysis was thorough as was the review of potential audiences.
One area that we spent significant time in understanding was in carefully assessing which city to stage our prospective exhibitions in. When assessing possible cities in the Middle East we looked at several key areas: current and forecast economic assessments, national economic strategy and objectives, mapping out key public and private stakeholders vested in the exhibition industry and aligned with the economic benefits of exhibitions, events infrastructure, and regional and international draw and interest.
While there are several major cities in the Middle East that are major global exhibition hubs, based on our assessment of current and future growth, and alignment with the exhibition profiles that we were looking at we felt that Abu Dhabi represents huge potential for the exhibition industry and a market that we wanted to invest in and establish new exhibitions.
Our first point of contact was with ADNEC’s commercial team. Graham Stephenson, ADNEC’s Commercial Director, took time to understand our business, our aspirations and the particulars of the prospective events that we were exploring. By taking time to understand our strategy, Graham and the team at ADNEC were able to recommend and to connect us with the right partners in the Abu Dhabi public sector. These connections have led to a number of partnerships that will make a meaningful difference as we realise our events.
Beyond these external relationships, and the ADNEC commercial team, we have begun to build an equitable relationship with ADNEC’s service team who will oversee the operational build of the majority of our two events. In addition, ADNEC’s communications team have already begun to provide support for our events and advised as to how they can continue to do so in the approach to the events.
Launching into new territories can represent many unknowns but by building relationships with the right organisations it not only mitigates to some degree the risk but it, importantly, unlocks additional potential for opportunity. ADNEC is a venue partner for both of our events but in truth the relationship goes much further. Our ambitions are well aligned, we succeed, so does ADNEC, as does Abu Dhabi.
ADNEC has already played a pivotal part in CONNECT establishing Middle East Design & Build Week and Middle East Manufacturing & Technology Expo which will both take place in 2022, we are hopeful that there may be other events in the coming years that we will stage at ADNEC.
