Event acquisitions are increasing, with private equity playing a larger role in deals, according to new data.

The latest M&A update from Grimes, McGovern & Associates (GMA), based on more than 360 transactions in 2025, shows renewed momentum in the events sector. Activity has risen steadily over the past two years, while trends across media and information services remain more mixed.

Nearly half of all event transactions in 2025 involved private equity backing. The report suggests this reflects growing investor confidence in scalable, community-driven event businesses.

Alongside the headline figures, the data highlights several themes shaping deal activity. These include a focus on niche audiences, the growth of complementary event ecosystems and continued cross-border expansion.

Early figures for 2026 suggest the trend is continuing, with deal activity already tracking ahead of last year.
