The Association of Event Venues will plant a tree for every delegate attending its annual conference. The move is part of a partnership with Just One Tree.
AEV will host its ninth annual conference on 14 November at Excel London. The organisation expects to plant several hundred trees based on typical delegate numbers.
Just One Tree is a non-profit that removes CO2 from the atmosphere through global reforestation. It plants trees in areas severely affected by deforestation including Madagascar, Haiti, Kenya, Mozambique, Indonesia, Nepal and Zambia.
The charity hires and trains local community members to plant and maintain the trees. It also provides agricultural education and helps create sustainable incomes for local communities.
Just One Tree also works to restore ocean ecosystems and provides environmental education to schools.
Tree planting – popular among corporations?
Tree planting has become a popular corporate sustainability strategy. Research shows that 98% of large corporations in France, Switzerland and the UK have carried out tree planting activities over the past 22 years. These companies have collectively planted over 500m trees.
The conference session will examine the political landscape facing the events industry. Tom Bradley and Kerry Villa will discuss government shifts and global changes affecting the sector.
AEV represents event venues of all sizes across the UK and internationally. The association is run by its members through an elected board. It forms part of the Events Industry Alliance alongside the Association of Event Organisers and the Event Supplier and Services Association.
