The NEC to host 11 new shows in 2022

by Joe Gallop

The NEC new business director Richard Mann said the venue is taking a “bold approach” to how it emerges from the pandemic, with a schedule of shows, either new to the venue or launching as new concepts.

Along with new golf and sailing shows taking place in February – Bunkered LIVE and Boatlife Live – the venue is set to host nine other new events throughout the year,  seven of which are also show launches.

Mann said he is excited about the sector “continuing to provide new perspectives and fresh ideas to its audiences”.

Among these new events is Malo Events’ consumer show MegaCon Live. The show is co-located with Kidtropolis, which has previously run at the NEC, but not since 2019.

Malo Events founder Bryan Cooney said: “The events industry has taken a battering over the course of the pandemic, so it’s great to be bouncing back with the launch of lots of new and exciting shows.

“We’ve had huge success with our recent TokFEST show, which demonstrated that the consumer appetite for events and experiential experiences is returning.

“We plan for MegaCon to go beyond what the UK and Irish market have seen before. We’re creating a show which typically attracts a niche audience and making it more mainstream with a stellar line up which will appeal to the masses.”

Also taking place for the first time this year is UK Metals Expo, which is launching in September by The Exhibition Company CEO Jason Franks. Organised by the team behind EMEX, it will be the first time that the entire UK metals industry is both represented and brought together fully under one roof.

Mann said: “The industry has had to diversify, use creativity and improve its resilience in terms of event delivery and execution over the past few years. I believe our proven track record with our organisers is helping to provide the confidence to do so after so much uncertainty.

“We all appreciate the opportunity to come together now more than ever before, and businesses are rediscovering the unique value of meeting their customers at events created to serve their communities.”

Nineteen Events will bring several co-located shows to the venue for Manufacturing & Engineering Week in June. Also to launch at the venue in June is the Installer Show by Lyrical Communications, co-located with Elemental Expo, as well as Advanced Materials Show, Ceramics UK, Battery Cells & Systems Expo and Vehicle Electrification Expo.

The latter, which was due to launch in 2021 but got postponed due to Covid-19, is one main show with four co-located show brands all from the same organiser Event Partners. The Public Sector Catering Expo on 15-16 March was also due to run at the venue last year but postponed due to Covid-19.

Raccoon Events’ launch shows The National Cycling Show and The National Outdoor Expo will also take place at the venue in June and March respectively.
