EN and the Women in Exhibitions European Chapter bring together leading industry experts to discuss an area that needs airtime – dismantling barriers.
In this session, our industry leaders take a stark look at the barriers preventing women from creating successful careers in exhibitions, and spell out what has to change to help women enjoy a better work environment.
Speakers include Ruth Carter (Red Fox Advisory), Lisa Hannant (Clarion Events), Simon Foster (International CEO and Business Leader), Trixie LohMirmand (Dubai World Trade Center) and Mary Larkin (Diversified Communications USA).
The session will be moderated by Mash Media’s editorial director, Martin Fullard.

Ruth Carter, Red Fox Advisory
Ruth has been CEO or Managing Director of a number of global event companies including UBM, Informa, Emap and most recently The Telegraph and she is currently Director of Red Fox Advisory supporting organisations with transformation and growth strategies. She is a non-executive director for Inclusive Companies, the UK’s premier cross-industry Diversity and inclusion network and is also a judge on the National Diversity Awards which sees over 27,000 entries each year. Simon Foster, CEO and business leader
Simon is a CEO and business leader in the exhibition and media industry. Most recently, he was CEO of Comexposium, where he led the transformation of an historically French business to become the fourth largest pure-play events organiser in the world. Before Comexposium, he was CEO of UBM EMEA and UBM Americas.
Simon is Chair of the Association of Event Organisers (AEO) International Working Group and was previously a Society of Independent Show Organizers (SISO) Board Director. As well, he is Non-Executive Director and Trustee for the Chiltern Learning Trust and Non-Executive Director and Advisor for Shinesmith.
Mary Larkin, Diversified Communications USA
As President of Diversified Communications USA division, Mary Larkin oversees Diversified’s leading portfolio of global tradeshows, conferences and online reporting.
Mary began her tradeshow and conference career in Europe before moving to the US in 1995 to join Diversified. Since joining, she has worked in sales and held roles including Show Director leading the global seafood portfolio, Group Vice President and Executive Vice President.
Mary is part of many industry Boards and forums including the Society of Independent Show Organizers (SISO) as well as Chair of SISO’s Women’s Leadership SIG. In 2019, she was the first female elected to President of UFI (Global tradeshow association) which she will hold until November 2020. She is also President of the Board of Directors for the Center for Grieving Children.
Trixie LohMirmand, Dubai World Trade Center
Trixie LohMirmand has almost 3 decades of experience in the global events industry. She currently serves in Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) as its Executive Vice President – Events Management.
Trixie leads the strategic and commercial growth of one of the company’s largest divisions by revenues, creative marketing, talent development and augmentation of an extensive and diverse portfolio of international business and lifestyle events.
Trixie is currently a Board Member of the Global Mobile Marketing Association and The Marketing Society, one of the largest global network of senior marketers. She also serves on the Advisory Council of Nord Anglia School Dubai and leads as the Vice President-Professional Women’s Group of the Singapore Business Council, Dubai.
Lisa Hannant, Group Managing Director of Clarion Events
Lisa has 30 years’ experience working across a broad range of products and international markets. Lisa is responsible for the strategic development and growth of Clarion’s portfolios internationally and has extensive experience of building market leading brands and positions both organically and through acquisition.
