The membership aims to encourage the advancement and continued professional development of women working in all areas of exhibitions, at all stages in their careers.
Membership benefits include access to events (networking, educational and leadership seminars), mentorship opportunities, the Rego academy and career support.
Caroline Gourlay, exhibitions senior account manager at ExCeL who is a key supporter of the cause, commented: “The events industry is an amazing profession to be a part of and one I’ve enjoyed for many years, but it’s also important we take time to think about enticing future generations to join, in particular the next generation of female leaders.
“Here at ExCeL, we care deeply about our diversity and inclusion programme, so didn’t hesitate to become a member of the UK chapter – the first venue to do so. As with many industries, women can often be underrepresented, especially at senior levels, so we must all play our part in helping to address that and that’s where WIE come in.”
Soraya Gadelrab, director of Reventalize and a founding member of Women in Exhibitions, said: “We are delighted to welcome ExCeL London into the Women in Exhibitions fold as the first UK venue to join as a corporate member. For us inclusivity is key and we are so pleased to be able to bring all of the parts of the industry together from organisers to suppliers and now venues too.
“I was recently invited to join the ExCeL team for our first face-to-face welcome party and it was wonderful to see so much engagement from the whole team from the top down and I was incredibly encouraged to see a number of men from the business join the welcome party to learn all about what we do. We are looking forward to working closer with ExCeL going forward and will be hosting our first ever Christmas Party at their venue on 25 November.”
