Custom motorcycle shop Battistinis and organiser Ocean Events believe the market is primed for a re-launch of custom bike show California Dreamin’ Expo, which last ran 14 years ago.
Announced last year, the California Dreamin’ Expo will run from 28 to 29 May 2011 at the Bournemouth International Centre. The show originally took place in 1997 but did not run a second edition.
“We put a show on under the same name in 1997 and it was a bit ahead of its time,” said Battistinis marketing manager Antony Foy. “It was all about custom bikes, which weren’t too well-known in the UK at the time.”
According to Foy, the rise in popularity of television shows like American Chopper have prepped the UKmarket for an exhibition focusing on custom motorcycles.
Unlike the original 1997 show, which had one trade-only day and one consumer day, this year’s show will market itself more towards a consumer audience and be open to the paying public both days.
“We will have a huge area along the promenade where all the custom bikes will park. Outside there is quite a lot of space and we have got two of thecentre’s halls,” Foy said.
Foy added the show takes place alongside a tattoo convention, which will hopefully result in audience crossover.
