Icon Exhibitions is the first company to complete the new Event Supplier and Services Association (ESSA) Accredited sustainability module, attaining the ‘Gold’ standard in the process.
The module, which covers 13 areas of business, has been drafted by ESSA’s Health & Safety project manager, Josh Taylor, with input from the association’s sustainability working group.
Taylor said: “I’m delighted that Icon Exhibitions has been our first member to complete the sustainability module, and thrilled with the excellent result. This reflects a real dedication to sustainability issues and a commitment to improvement.”
Wayne Ball (pictured), managing director, Icon Exhibitions, said he wanted the company to complete the module as soon as possible: “We were already one of the first companies to complete our ESSA accreditation because we want to raise standards across the industry and believe that the ESSA Accredited scheme is fundamental to this effort. We were keen to gain the additional sustainability qualification because we take sustainability seriously and want the sector to lead on this issue, but we were not expecting to be awarded Gold status. It’s a real vindication of all our efforts in that direction.”
Ball added: “We submitted ourselves to the scrutiny of ESSA Accredited sustainability module for three reasons really. Firstly, it’s the right thing to do, as an industry, as businesses, and as individuals – that much is painfully clear. Secondly, it’s clearly the direction of travel for the whole economy, and it’s best to try and stay ahead of change. And finally, it makes sense to ensure our sustainability efforts are making a difference and are aligned with the efforts of the whole sector for maximum impact. The submission process has been made really easy by ESSA, it’s free to accredited members, and it really helps to focus sustainability efforts in the right directions.”
