World Travel Market (WTM) 2010 has been voted UKinbound’s Industry Event of the Year at the travel association’s annual convention gala dinner at Alton Towers, Staffordshire.
The awards were voted by UKinbound members only, with one vote per member company. WTM went up against Best of Britain and Ireland, the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and the Encore WTM Party for the title.
WTM, a four-day business-to-business exhibition for the worldwide travel and tourism industry, was held at Excel London from 8-11 November. “I am delighted WTM 2010 was voted UKinbound’s Event of the Year. Recognition from UKinbound’s members, who are some of the event’s key exhibitors and visitors, demonstrates what a great event for the industry WTM 2010 was,” says WTM Exhibition Director, Simon Press.
WTM 2010 had 150 new exhibitors, including many in the UK and Ireland region including the Institute of Directors, Manchester United, Liverpool Football Club, The Guild of Travel and Tourism, Cutty Sark, St Paul’s Cathedral and Ripley’s.
The 31st edition of WTM saw an unaudited 10 per cent increase in visitors for 2010 with a total of 26,900 visitors attending WTM over its four days compared to 24,400 visitors at WTM 2009. There were also more than 5,000 exhibitors including 628 main stand exhibitors, compared to 607 in 2009.
The amount of business conducted at WTM also increased 25 per cent with the event poised to generate £1,424m in industry deals compared to £1,139m in 2009.
