The Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre has revealed strong trading figures as it moves into 2010.
Figures for the 2008/09 financial year show growing operating profit up by 47 per cent and turnover up by 10 per cent overall, which exceeds £18m. Its event and concert divisions saw an increase in turnover by 35 per cent and gross profit by 36 per cent.
“This year we have really seen the benefits of combining marketing and sales expertise in a joint sales division. This allowed us to work to a tighter tenancy calendar and maximise all business opportunities,” says CEO John Sharkey.
Construction also continues on the Scottish National Arena, which will be able to hold 12,500 people and relieve the pressure on the SECC’s Hall Four, which is currently the biggest exhibition space in Scotland.
“We expect another challenging year in 2010,” continues Sharkey. “The Centre will continue to work with the Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, and the rest of ‘Team Glasgow’, to help continually grow the city’s event reputation.”
