MCM Comic Con Scotland has said this is its fourth year of growth since launching at the Scottish Event Campus in 2013. The event has attracted thousands of visitors every year, with this year being no exception. The organiser has reported that over 30,000 thousand pop culture fans visited the show over the two days (23-24 September).
Since its first year at the SEC, Comic Con has outgrown its original space of 5,000sqm, and the event’s footprint is now into a 15,000sqm space since the inaugural event, with plans for further growth.
Gital Tete, chief operations officer of MCM, said: “Comic Con provides you with a place where you can be anyone you want to be. Everyone is here to have fun.
“I think that with pop culture shows, you always have some growing and some not growing. Thankfully, we’re seeing a trend where more and more people are returning and we are seeing lots of new visitors, too. Here at the SEC, we’ve room to expand even further – there’s so many options with the space here and the team are really helpful.”
Attractions this year were bigger and better than ever before, and super fans were treated to meet and greets with their idols, including cast members from the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, cult TV shows and anime stars.
Comic Village, a dedicated area for comic creators, artists, writers and fans can come together, was sold out and the KidZone allowed the younger audience members to become Mini Superheroes by winning their very own cape and getting their face painted. They also had the chance to meet Dr Seuss’ star, the Lorax.
Breda Cruickshank, head of exhibition sales at the SEC, commented: “It’s our aim to help shows grow here at the SEC and MCM Comic Con is a great example of how exciting and varied content can help bring an audience back year on year and attract even more people.”
The show will be back at in 2018 and 2019 at the SEC.
