Westminster School’s purchase of Lawrence Hall from the Royal Horticultural Society, owner of the Royal Horticultural Halls, has prompted an emergency change of venue for the organiser of the ABTT 2012 Theatre Show.
The event’s director, Roger Fox, confirmed the 2012 show will go ahead, but added he had not been informed about the sale of the hall until an RHH announcement on 20 December.
“This announcement has come as a surprise to us, and at a time when planning for the 2012 Show was well advanced,” he said. “Discussions to secure an alternative venue are already in progress, which we see as also an opportunity to offer improved facilities for our exhibitors and visitors.”
As a result of the late change in venue, Fox said he is unsure whether the event’s existing June 2012 dates will be available at an alternative venue, but efforts are being made to avoid changes to the timing of the annual event.
“The ABTT Theatre Show enjoys a fantastic heritage and although 2012 will be its 34th year and the first for many years in a new venue, it will remain a friendly and accessible event that continues to evolve and retain relevance to the contemporary theatre industry,” said Fox.
ABTT aims to bring people with technical roles in contemporary theatre to see new products and service providers.
