Reed Travel Exhibitions (RTE) has reshuffled its international meetings exhibition team following the departure of Steve Knight to join Centaur’s new Meetings Show UK.
Knight was formerly project director for RTE’s AIBTM show in Baltimore and spent six years with the organiser. As previously reported in EN, he is relocating from New York to London to become exhibition director for Centaur’s new Meetings Show UK on 16 April.
RTE portfolio director Craig Moyes told EN the company has appointed EIBTM exhibition director Graeme Barnett (pictured) as interim event director for AIBTM to plug the gap left by Knight. Barnett will retain his role on EIBTM.
“AIBTM has a very well resourced and experienced team not only from its hub in the US, but also from its global offices around the world,” Moyes explained. “While a replacement for Steve Knight is being sought, Graeme will be leading the show team from its US base at the Reed Exhibition offices in Norwalk.”
During Barnett’s sojourn in the US, EIBTM will be directed by Mandy Torrens, the IBTM head of marketing and buyer programmes who ran EIBTM from 2005 to 2009.
Centaur announced the launch of The Meetings Show UK at UBM’s International Confex on 6 March. The new meetings industry trade show will debut at Olympia in London 9-11 July 2013 with a promised 1,000 hosted buyers.
The Meetings Show UK is being overseen by former RTE IBTM director Paul Kennedy MBE as strategic advisor.
Knight, who spent 10 years with VisitBritain before moving to Reed in 2005, said his experience within the global meetings industry was a perfect fit with Centaur’s ambitions.
“Centaur’s decision to launch a hosted buyer-led meetings show has come at the perfect time for an industry looking to achieve maximum value from marketing, meeting and education budgets and time,” Knight claimed.
“I look forward to working with industry professionals including: Hosted buyers, visitors, exhibitors, our show team and the Advisory Board as we create an event that truly adds value to the UK meetings industry.”
