Dancing robots that can play snooker and cook like a master chef will be a highlight of the Process Packaging and Machinery Show (PPMA) at NEC Birmingham next month.
Organisers have increased the three-day event’s floorspace by 25 per cent in anticipation of their largest event in recent years.
The free-to-attend exhibition will showcase production line and packaging machinery on 29 September to 1 October.
PPMA spokesperson Tom Fisher said: “Last year saw the event return to the sole ownership and management of the PPMA Group after the end of a licence agreement with Reed Exhibitions.
“With over 8,000 visitors taking to the floor in 2014 to see the latest developments from across a wide range of industries we were delighted with how successful the show was – and the great feedback received from visitors and exhibitors alike.”
Research showed 87 per cent of visitors in 2014 said they were likely to attend the 2015 event, Fisher said.
Robotics will be a focus of the 2015 event, after the successful appearance of 2.4 metre robot TITAN at last year’s show.
A robotics and industrial vision zone will showcase innovative and quirky uses of the technology. Visitors can expect to see robots that can dance, serve drinks and play snooker.
Shadow Robot company director Rich Walker will be on hand to discuss how the company developed the Moley robotic kitchen, which combines a robotic chef with an attractive, professional kitchen.
After the launch of charitable trust the PPMA BEST initiative, to recruit more young people to the industry, the 2015 event will highlight the benefit of apprenticeships. Meanwhile young industry talent will be on show at the PPMA Ones to Watch awards.
“As growth in the UK’s manufacturing sector continues to accelerate and manufacturers indicate plans for expansion, the PPMA Show is the ideal place for processing and packaging professionals to discover the latest technologies and product launches,” Fisher added.
