Media 10 has claimed more than 47,000 visitors attended its inaugural Design Shanghai on 27 February to 2 March.
Held at Shanghai Exhibition Centre, and co-organised by Shanghai Art Fair, the organiser said its first event in China is set to be one of Media 10’s biggest and most premium, trade events. Around 65 per cent of visitors were architects, interior designers, developers, dealers and the most affluent design conscious consumers.
The show featured more than 50 UK brands and over 100 international design brands, including Tom Dixon, Fritz Hansen, Magis, Moooi, HAY, Boss Design, Bocci, BD Barcelona design, Young & Norgate, across three sections: Contemporary Design, Classic Design and Collectible Design.
“We always wanted to launch a high-end event on mainland China and when the opportunity arose we seized it with both hands,” said Media 10 CEO Lee Newton. “Shanghai and China are evolving rapidly but until now no-one has taken important western design brands to China.
“I am so glad to see the popularity of Design Shanghai, this event is going to grow and grow to become one of the biggest global platforms for design. I want to give a special thanks to the exhibitors that believed in our dream to hold an international event in China.”
Highlights of the show included the AD China Design Forum which featured five daily seminars profiling western and eastern designers.
Mike Dynan, a director at Media 10 said: “This has been an unbelievable journey with plenty of obstacles but we remained positive and found a way through them. The support we have received from the design industry over here and in China has been overwhelming. The majority of exhibitors and sponsors have already rebooked again for next year and we have already had a lot of enquiries from other leading brands.”
The Essex-based organiser attracted more than 5,000 visitors at its optical launch event.
