MAGIC: THE GATHERING COMES TO THE NEC

by Nicola Macdonald

More than 3,000 fans of trading card game Magic: The Gathering will descend on the NEC on 11-13 August 2017 for Magic: The Gathering Grand Prix.

David Gallagher, business development manager at the NEC, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming the Magic Grand Prix to the NEC. Over the last few years we have hosted more and more events that bring the gaming community together, and we are in a great location to open these fantastic events to a national audience.”

Over its 23-year history, Magic has transported players to more than a dozen distinct fantasy worlds and grown its catalogue to encompass over 15,000 unique cards. It has been printed in 11 languages and is played in at least 70 countries.

Trevor Baker from Channel Fireball, which organises the event across the globe, added: “Magic’s deep strategy, compelling worlds, and rich visuals have drawn in twenty million players from around the world, and each week, at more than 7,000 hobby gaming stores, this diverse collection of people comes together to find common ground in their shared love of the game.

“We wanted a venue that was easily accessible and with the NEC being in the heart of the UK, which enables visitors from across the country the ability to travel to the venue with ease; whether they choose the travel by road or rail. The venue has been hosting fantastic live events for over 40 years so we are confident that they will be able to help us deliver a successful Grand Prix.”
