London & Partners, organiser of the London Tech Week 2018 (LTW) has announced the addition of Formula 1 Powerboat racing (F1H20) to its series of events as organiser U.I.M confirmed that a London Grand Prix is part of the 2018 World Championship season.
The move has allowed the Formula 1 Powerboat racing to return to London for the first time in over 30 years.
Speaking to EN, Andrew Cooke, acting CEO of London & Partners, said: “We are excited at the prospect of Formula 1 Powerboat racing returning to London for the first time in 30 years for London Tech Week 2018. Major sporting and cultural events are an important driver of growth and jobs for London’s economy and since hosting the Olympic Games in 2012 they have contributed £2.2 billion to London’s economy.”
Cooke added: “With over 200 events taking place across the city, last year’s London Tech Week attracted over 40,000 visitors to the capital, making it Europe’s largest festival of technology.”
LTW2018 is scheduled to run from 12 June. The event will also feature the LeadersIn Tech Summit, TechXLR8 and the Gala Dinner will be on the line-up.
“The inclusion of the F1 Powerboat World Championships for 2018 demonstrates our continued commitment to bring the very best technology-driven events to London Tech Week and is a key part of our ambition to make it the world’s leading global festival of technology and innovation,” Cooke concluded.
Showcasing the latest powerboat technology and engineering, the two-day race weekend (16-17th June) will give spectators the chance to see the lightweight catamarans race at speeds of up to 140mph around the Royal Victoria Docks.
London Tech Week 2018 take place at different venues across London including Hilton London Olympia, ExCel London, and Inmarsat to name but a few.
