Titanic Belfast, the visitor attraction and monument in Northern Ireland, has announced the appointment of Judith Owens to the role of chief executive officer, effective 15 December 2017.
Owens will take over the reins from Tim Husbands MBE as CEO not only of Titanic Belfast but also for SS Nomadic and the Titanic Exhibition Centre.
“I’m delighted to be appointed as chief executive and look forward to delivering in the next stage of the company’s development. Rest assured, we will continue to deliver our five star and world-class standards to visitors and clients alike,” Owens said.
Commenting on the appointment, Conal Harvey, deputy chairman of Titanic Belfast Ltd, said: “We are delighted to appoint Judith Owens as chief executive of Titanic Belfast. Serving as director of operations and deputy chief executive for over six years, Judith has been fundamental to our development and has a wealth of strategic and operational knowledge.
“With her stakeholder relationships and unrivalled knowledge of events and the tourism industry, she is uniquely placed to lead Titanic Belfast’s strong management team into the next phase of our company’s development.”
Owens joined Titanic Belfast before it’s opening in 2012 to serve as director of operations and deputy chief executive and was fundamental to the success of the award-winning tourist attraction and conference venue.
In her role, Owens led the operation of all signature events at Titanic Belfast, including BBC Sports Personality of the Year Red Carpet event, MTV Sounds and BBC Proms in the Park.
In her previous role, Owens helped the business’ commercial development to include the operation of SS Nomadic in April 2015 and the Titanic Exhibition Centre in September 2015.
SS Nomadic is a heritage venue available for exclusive hire for a range of private and corporate events, from drinks receptions to fine dining. The Titanic Exhibition Centre is a 6,000-metre space for exhibitions, community, sporting events and large-scale banquets for over 5,000.
As a result, the venue now operates three Titanic event spaces in one unique location.
Before her role at Titanic Belfast, Owens was head of operations and house manager at the Waterfront & Ulster Hall for 14 years.
EN has learnt that the venues have a busy year ahead, with shows including
- Holiday World Show (19 – 21 Jan)
- Irish Golf Expo (3-4 Feb)
- IFEX (20-22 March)
- iFit (7-8 April)
- Crating Live (26-28 April)
These exhibitions are lined up at the Titanic Exhibition Centre, along with a range of high profile events at the other venues.
Harvey commented: “We have ambitious plans to develop Titanic Belfast and its related venues so it continues to be recognised as a world leader and we know Judith’s experience will prove invaluable.”
