Enterprise IT exhibition IP Expo has reported a 30 per cent rise in attendance a year after seeing off the competing 360IT exhibition.
Organiser Imago Techmedia also chalked up a 20 per cent year-on-year increase in exhibitors to 260 this year. The IP Expo was held in Earls Court 2 from 19 to 20 October.
This year’s edition of IP Expo was the first held since Reed Exhibitions cancelled its rival 360IT show. The last 360IT was held at Earls Court in September 2010 – a month before Imago’s fifth annual IP Expo. At the time, Imago co-founder and director Hugh Keeble said he was inundated with calls from exhibitors pleased to have only one major event to support.
360IT’s demise brought a handful of exhibitors across to IP Expo 2011 including major enterprise IT vendor Symantec, Keeble said.
“One of the factors for the uplift in visitors was that we didn’t have the confusion with 360IT competing and marketing effectively the same show at the same time,” he continued.
According to Imago, the second contributor to the record visitor result was a new seminar theatre and series of high profile speakers. Leading the series of keynotes was Apple co-founder and chief scientist of Fusion-io, Steve Wozniak, who attracted 900 attendees. Other speakers included Cisco London 2012 MD Neil Crockett and Olympian and London 2012 team ambassador Roger Black MBE.
Keeble was pleased with the attendance result particularly given the tough economic times and highlighted the mix of end users, vendors, decision makers and IT community figureheads at the exhibition.
“The ultimate endorsement of the show’s status as one of the leading European events is that we have real stars such as Steve Wozniak taking the time to fly from California to speak,” he said.
“I’ve been in the events business for over 20 years and I have never experienced a buzz on a show floor like I did this year at IP Expo. Last week we saw that, in spite of ‘Googleability’ and social networking, we all still crave the human interaction in business that only a show can provide.”
Imago has partnered with Easyfairs to launch the IP Expo brand in Europe next year including a debut in Stockholm next May. The organiser is also launching an edition in South Africa in November as part of a joint venture with Montgomery.
The UK show returns from 17 to 18 October 2012 at Earls Court 2.
