IOEX predicts events uplift in 2012

Nearly two-thirds of event organisers believe their prospects are looking better this year, according to a new industry survey.
 
An events industry poll from The International Outdoor Event Expo (IOEX) found 64 per cent of respondents are expecting animproved 12 months, with 83.4 per cent saying their investment budget would be the same or increased in 2012.
 
Technology plays a prominent role in organiser’s minds, with 57.1 per cent planning to invest in event technology and 53.7 per cent in AV equipment.

Event management, lighting and sound and entertainment followed as the next largest spends from organisers.
 
Eighty-six per cent of organisers said they would be investing more in social media as part of the event marketing mix, while 45 per cent highlighted the economy as the biggest issue affecting the events industry this year, compared to only 18 per cent who highlighted the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games as a key influence.
 
The IOEX exhibition debuts on 6–8 March at Excel London.
 
The survey was aimed at a wide demographic of people in the event industry likely to attend IOEX, with 81 per cent made up of executives, event organisers and chief executives.
 
“The results of the IOEX survey certainly echo the feeling in the industry that 2012 will be an exciting year of growth and change,” UBM portfolio director Jonny Sullens said.
 
“With so many external factors at the forefront of our minds, the results will now be fed into our seminar programme to make sure we can provide insight for the areas our organiser and brand visitors are interested in.”
 
The digital survey was carried out from 2 to 20 January.
 
Tourism minister John Penrose will attend IOEX, which is co-located with International Confex.
