Emap Connect has dismissed suggestions it will look to acquire Ecobuild to replace its cancelled Built Environment Solutions and Technology (Best) and Interbuild exhibitions in 2012.
Earlier this month, Emap cancelled its Best, Interbuild onsite and Glassex exhibitions for 2011 in favour of relaunching a different construction show next year. It will however, run the existing Infrastructure Show and InstallerLive show at The NEC this October.
Emap Built Environment MD Richard Baker told EN the organiser expects to reveal details of a new-look 2012 event in coming weeks.
“We will be taking a completely new show to market,” he claimed. “We’re in the testing phase at the moment, and consulting the market around our ideas.”
Baker agreed Emap had an acquisitive track record but said there were no plans to buy rival the Ecobuild show from International Business Events to replace Best/Interbuild in its portfolio.
“Ecobuild is a fantastic show and has a really good position, but we’re not in discussions with Ecobuild,” Baker said. “Our launch event has to make sense on its own two legs.
“In addition, with what we are trying to do at the moment, there’s nothing quite right that serves the customer needs we’re trying to meet.
“The other challenge with acquisitions is you have to make sure the strategic fit is right. There’s no point acquiring if it doesn’t add value to your proposition.”
This year’s Infrastructure show includes a new keynote theatre and broken into dedicated areas covering rail, utilities, roads and airports.
