UBM Built Environment will debut a Southeast Asian edition of its Ecobuild sustainability building show next year, marking the third launch in Asia in 18 months.
Ecobuild Southeast Asia takes place at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 17 to 19 September 2013 and will be co-located with Greenbuild Asia, the region’s existing event on sustainable building. Greenbuild attracted 11,000 visitors and 450 companies from 32 countries.
UBM Asia and Greenbuild organiser AMB Exhibitions, inked a partnership agreement fortheir events in July.
News of the latest geo-adaptation comes six months after UBM announced the launch of an Indian edition of Ecobuild next April at the Bombay Exhibition Centre. The first China edition of the trade fair was held in Shanghai in April.
UBM acquired Ecobuild from UK show founder, International Business Events, for up to £51m in July 2011 including an initial £31m cash payment.
UBM Built Environment international director Eliane van Doorn said Malaysia was chosen from the list of countries across Southeast Asia due to the support of the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) and the Malaysian Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water.
Ecobuild Southeast Asia will be officially hosted by the CIDB and is expected to bring together senior government officials, developers, architects, consultants, contractor and planners from across the region.
“Our aim with Ecobuild Southeast Asia is to provide a regionally and internationally respected event to attract international leaders and suppliers to the region,” van Doorn said. “Southeast Asia offers suppliers unparalleled business opportunities and we’re delighted to be able to facilitate a route into this highly profitable market.”
Economists predict Southeast Asia will be among the world’s 10 largest economies and the fourth largest in Asia by 2020. The combination of growing investment in infrastructure, with the focus on sustainable development and numerous green incentives, made it the natural location to take Ecobuild to, UBM said.
UBM claimed its inaugural Ecobuild show in London attracted 1,500 exhibitors and 57,000 attendees at Excel last March.
