Earls Court and Olympia (EC&O) has launched a website specifically for use on mobile devices, claiming to be the first UK venue to do so.
Accessing the site, users can see what’s on at the venue and how to get there, as well as find places to eat and drink nearby and access EC&O’s social networks. Event organisers have a dedicated section to browse the selection of venue spaces, view virtual tours, identify service partners and read news.
“Our mobile-optimised site works across a range of handsets including BlackBerry and iPhone, and gives our organisers another opportunity to raise the profile of their events,” said EC&O head of marketing Tom Lambregts.
A spokesperson for Excel London claims it launched its own mobile website on 5 May, and has since received 4,367 unique visitors. She added that the venue plans to launch an iPhone app this summer.
According to the SME Mobile Website Audit, although mobile Internet devices outsold computers as far back as 2009, only seven per cent of British firms are confident that they had optimised their sites for mobile use.
Meanwhile, organiser Ocean Media has signed an agreement with Quickka Events to create a mobile device app for all four of its National Wedding Shows in the UK.
