Salary: £99,711 (increasing to £101,705 from April 2019)

Harrogate is the home of convention events and we have been hosting events at the Convention Centre since 1835, helping event organisers and their audiences to connect, engage and grow. As one of the leading convention destinations in the country we welcome around 300,000 visitors a year to one of the most popular choices for both event organisers and delegates. The business contributes to an estimated economic impact of £60m to Harrogate’s economy each year.
The successful candidate will be joining us at an exciting time with plans for a significant redevelopment of the site, an ambitious sales and marketing strategy, a Business Improvement District for Harrogate about to be launched, and the Convention Centre plays an important role in Harrogate’s hosting of the UCI World Road Race cycling championships in September 2019.
As we implement the next steps of our ambitious plans we are looking for someone with a strong commercial background to play a leading role in providing leadership, vision and strategic direction to Harrogate Convention Centre to become the country’s leading events destination.
The successful candidate will have experience in a senior leadership position and have commercial experience (preferably in an events environment). You will also have experience of managing large complex budgets, developing strategies, and overseeing the delivery of high standards of service. You must have a strong understanding of the events industry or related commercial environment and have the ability to maximise opportunities to generate income.
Reporting to the Chief Executive you will be an inspiring and motivational leader and an effective communicator who is determined, positive and approachable. You will have gravitas, experience and credibility to oversee the successful delivery of the business plan for the Convention Centre and contribute to the economic prosperity of Harrogate by generating events for the centre and ensuring they are successfully delivered for a wide range of clients. You will be expected to drive revenue growth for the business and will be provided with the freedom, flexibility and support in order to succeed.
