The #EventProfs Network returned to Google Campus in east London last night (25 September) with Exhibition News’ own Annie Byrne among the panel of experts.
The discussion looked at how content marketing is driving the future of events.
Also on the panel were representatives from Who’s Who in Events, The MICE Blog, and Haymarket, all moderated by Marco Forgione, CEO of EVCOM (former Eventia).
Exhibition News’ senior writer and award-winning blogger Annie Byrne said: “The event was a great opportunity to discuss content marketing, blogging and social media with other event professionals, however I felt as though we only scratched the surface.
“We as a community should be getting together to discuss it on a regular basis.”
Using sli.do technology for audience engagement, a survey was carried out at the event and 52 per cent of the respondents mentioned that they don’t engage enough with event content because “I was not well-informed before the event” and 35 per cent said “I don’t have time” to the same question.
Hellen Beveridge, director and curator at Who’s Who in Events and Pure Rocket Science, said: “Content must be relevant and statements are not enough”.
She added that events need to go deeper on content and to create relevant content, search where the audience is and also leverage ambassadors to identify that content.
Irina Trofimovskaya, publisher of The MICE Blog, commented that platforms such as Instagram and Facebook allow to engage the audience with more space for discussion than for example Twitter that limits the number of characters for each tweet.
Kim Benjamin, special projects editor at Event magazine, said: “Event content is essential in today’s events industry. “We need to create anticipation, a buzz before the event.”
Pickevent is shortly launching a group for event professionals to open these and other discussions, join conversations, share content but also relevant events for event professionals. Anyone interested in sharing quality content for event professionals should contact Jose Bort, CEO of Pickevent.
He said: “#EventProfs Network is an open community where we invite all event professionals and technologists to connect and learn through monthly meetups at Google Campus.”
The #EventProfs Network events are free for event professionals.
The upcoming events are on 23 October, 20 November and 11 December.
Pickevent hosted its summer networking at Google Campus in east London last month.
