Ambitious plans to increase Burnley’s capacity as an exhibition and conference host have received a Royal seal of approval.
Dubbed The Premier Plan, and with backing from The Prince’s Charities, Burnley Football Club and Burnley Borough Council among others have drawn up proposals, including improving transportation links between Burnley and Manchester. Turf Moor, home to Burnley FC, will become home to the UK’s first ‘StadiArena’ stand, capable of housing exhibitions, concerts and conferences 365 days a year.
Burnley FC CEO, Paul Fletcher, says: “If you dare to dream, dream big. This is about the whole town and potentially leaving a massive legacy The club can’t just run off doing its own little thing. If we pull together as a town, we believe this could be a blueprint for a new Burnley.”
And the idea of adding a football university linked to Burnley FC could also be realised. The historical but run-down Weaver’s Triangle area has been mooted as a possible location for supplementary new student accommodation.
“A university at Turf Moor is a splendid idea and this bold plan would totally rejuvenate a run down area of town,” adds Fletcher.
