Step aboard the Solent Forts and escape to your own private island for an experience just outside Portsmouth Harbour.
Few can say they have stayed the night on a small island located in the waters of the Solent, enjoying an alternative view of the Portsmouth coast and the Isle of Wight. Perhaps even fewer have enjoyed a business event or team-building day at sea.
From parties to leisure breaks, to weddings, conferences and team-building, this trio of forts have been creatively transformed into unique settings for events.
“Mainly constructed from 1865 (they took 15 years to build). The forts were built out of 15ft granite walls and armour plating to protect Portsmouth and its harbour from attack and bombardment from Napoleon and the French,” says Mike Clare, chairman of Clarenco (Amazing Venues/Solent Forts).
“They were used during WWI and WWII and finally decommissioned in the 1980s.”
These days, the forts are two island hotels – No Man’s Fort and Spitbank Fort – while the third, Horse Sand Fort, is a living museum which serves as a reminder of the building’s history, including the original gun carriages, armour-plated walls and shell stores.
Together, all three Solent Forts offer a unique setting for a range of activities and events.
Spitbank Fort is one of the most exclusive venues on the south coast and is available to hire for private events. It is full of character and style and has a quirky interior.
No Man’s Fort is three times the size of Spitbank and is the ‘ultimate party venue’, with a mess hall that can cater for up to 200 delegates. Boasting incredible Solent views, a Cabaret Bar and an innovative LaZer Battle arena, No Man’s Fort provides an ‘out of this world’ experience.
Both forts feature function rooms fitted with state-of-the-art equipment that can accommodate parties of varying sizes.
The forts also cater for themed events; from the glitzy glamour of 1920s party evenings to pirate parties, WWII themes, Jazz dinners, James Bond, Ibiza club evenings and classic concerts, there’s a theme to suit everyone.
For a different perspective on the UK, and to instantly reconnect with Portsmouth’s nautical heritage, set foot on one of the forts for an experience like no other.
